We believe as business owners, that we have an ethical and economical obligation to give back meaningfully to the community that supports us. In line with this thinking, our founder, Heath N. Carey, began the nonprofit Freedom Gardens concurrently with Nourishing Cultures, with the mission to enhance local food security by demonstrating sustainable food production methods while offering hands-on learning.
Seven years after its formation, Freedom Gardens has evolved into a 3200 square foot learning aquaponic greenhouse at Frenchtown School District’s Elementary School, where fresh produce enters the school’s cafeterias and students enter the greenhouse for daily lessons.
